The school’s Library is available to the whole school, supporting all areas of the curriculum.

Staffed Opening Times:

Monday – Friday           10.00 am – 3.00 pm

This allows the students to use the Library during breaks and after school.

In addition to the 10,500 fiction, non-fiction and reference books, there are many other resources for students to use.  These include newspapers, topic files, periodicals, magazines and DVDs.

The accelerated Reader scheme is a major part of KS3 Library lessons.  The scheme produces reading age data for each student and also gives a recommended book range for them to choose from.  Once students have finished a book they take an online book quiz which tests their understanding of the book and they gain 5 merits for a score of 80% and above.  The scheme is an excellent way of demonstrating reading progress and has proved very popular with students, motivating and enthusing them with a love of reading.

The Library is equipped with a suite of computers – these are well used at breaks and lunch times and are usually booked in advance.

All Year 7 students are given an introductory course to enable them to use the Library confidently and effectively.  We regard these as life skills vital to future study and research, allowing information retrieval from a variety of sources.

Several students volunteer to help in the Library during breaks and after school.
