Rewards and Consequences

At Ridgeway Academy, we want to develop reflective, self-disciplined learners who can monitor and regulate their behaviour. Our ethos is the foundation of everything we do: ‘Everybody can achieve.’

Our Behaviour system is based on a restorative approach, which focuses on encouraging our students to:

  • Respect the school rules, each other and our community.
  • Take Responsibility for their learning, conduct and attitude.
  • Develop Relationships that enables them to lead happy, safe and healthy lives.

To support us in reaching our goal, we have a number of behaviour management strategies, with key routines, consequences and rewards to encourage positive behaviour and most importantly, develop our students to be the best version of themselves.

At Ridgeway Academy we believe that high quality teaching promotes effective learning and good behaviour.  We recognise and celebrate effort and success so each student feels valued.  Alongside this we will teach students to take responsibility for their own actions and to accept the consequences of their choices.

Please take time to review the Rewards and Consequences grids that underpin the school values:

Consequence Ladder January 2025

Rewards:

Ridgeway Academy rewards take on many forms, we firmly believe that effort and achievement of all kinds should be acknowledged and celebrated. Creating a culture of individual success is vital in schools and we encourage all students to take real pride in their own achievements and to respect the hard work and achievements of others.

Consequences:

Our Consequence System is designed to support students in their learning and enjoyment of school. Whilst our ethos is to reward students as often as possible there inevitably have to be clear expectations regarding behaviour. The system is based on promoting learning; anything that prevents the student or others from learning will be taken very seriously.

Our Consequences System is based on a fair set of rules that will be applied by all staff consistently. The system gives students the chance to behave. If they choose not to, they will be given a warning. If they do not respond to the warning, they will then be given the choice of regulating their own behaviour, or receiving a consequence. If they still do not respond, they will receive a consequence.
