Philosophy & Ethics
The department promotes an enquiring, empathetic and critical awareness towards the study of religion.
Welcome to the Philosophy and Ethics department – Subject Leader: Mrs A Timpson
Students will be challenged with ultimate questions about beliefs, values, meaning, purpose and truth, enabling them to develop their own ideas about spiritual and moral issues. Students will also gain an appreciation of how religion, philosophy and ethics form the basis of our culture and understand the impact of religion on individuals, communities and societies.
Students are encouraged to construct well-informed and balanced arguments on matters concerned with religious beliefs and values set out in the subject.
Philosophy and ethics promote the development of analytical and critical thinking skills, the ability to work with abstract ideas, leadership and research skills. All of these skills will help students prepare for further study and the cultivation of wider life aptitudes.
Key Stage 3
Students study Philosophy & Ethics for two one hour lessons per fortnight.
Students explore wider philosophical, moral questions, religious and secular views focusing on current issues happening in our world today.
